Car USB-C Data Cable with Right Angle Plug for Dashboard Use
A car USB-C data cable with a 90 degree molded plug that keeps the lead flat against the console or trim. Wired for data as well as power, TPE jacket for the temperature swing inside a vehicle, with a coiled option so the lead retracts.

Overview
A phone mounted on the dashboard and a socket buried in the center console produce one of the most common complaints in a vehicle: the plug either will not seat because of the case, or it seats and then levers against the trim until something cracks. The geometry of the plug matters more here than any headline number, which is why a car USB-C data cable in this range is a 90 degree molded assembly wired for data as well as power.
Key Specifications

| Current | Quoted 3 A – to be confirmed |
| Data rate | Quoted 10 Gbps – to be confirmed |
| Options | Coiled section, straight or angled plug, multiple lengths |
| Wiring | Data conductors present, not a charge-only lead |
The case clearance problem
A right-angle plug only solves the problem if its body clears the phone case. Competitor listings in this class quote a maximum case allowance of roughly 2 to 2.5 mm for the molded 90 degree shell. That is the figure to check against the case you actually use, and it is listed as needing confirmation on our tooling, because a millimeter decides whether the connector seats fully.
| Installation | What goes wrong | What to specify |
|---|---|---|
| Phone in a thick case on a dashboard mount | Plug body will not clear the case lip, seats partly and arcs | Check the case allowance before ordering |
| Console socket in a recessed well | Straight plug levers against the trim | 90 degree molded plug, lead flat against the trim |
| Lead across the gear lever | Slack caught on every shift | Coiled section so the lead retracts |
| Rear seat or boot mounted device | Short lead will not reach, long lead coils on the floor | Longer run with a coiled section |
What the rating means: data, not just charging
Wired head units need a data path. A charge-only lead will power a phone and nothing else, and the session will never start. The terms below are the industry definitions, quoted so you can match the head unit to the cable.
| Class | Defined signaling rate | What it supports in a vehicle |
|---|---|---|
| USB 2.0 | 480 Mbps | Charging, basic media, some dash cam logging |
| USB 3.2 Gen 1 | 5 Gbps | Wired phone projection, fast dash cam offload |
| USB 3.2 Gen 2 | 10 Gbps | Fast offload, high rate cameras – quoted figure, to be confirmed |
This assembly is wired to carry data as well as power and is compatible with Android Auto and compatible with CarPlay in the sense that it supports the wired link those systems use. Whether the session actually starts is determined by the head unit and the handset, not by the cable – but a power-only lead will not start either one.
The interior is the hard part
A car interior sees a wider temperature swing than almost any other place a cable is used. A jacket that stiffens on a cold morning start will pull on the plug, and one that softens in summer sun will creep out of the socket. That is the reasoning behind the compound choice, and it is the reason the temperature band is quoted rather than left open. The -20 to +85 degrees C band, the TPE compound and the 3 A current figure come from competitor listings for the class and are on the confirmation list.
When you must have a data-wired lead
- Wired phone projection – the head unit will not start the session without a data path.
- Dash cameras that log over a wired connection – footage has to come off the device somehow.
- Head unit firmware updates over USB – no data path, no update.
- Diagnostics dongles on fleet vehicles – they talk, and a charge-only lead cannot.
Typical applications for this car USB-C data cable
- Dashboard mounted phones on a wired projection link, with our USB-C Gen2 data cable as the straight-plug alternative
- Center console retrofits where the socket sits in a recessed well
- Dash cameras and other in-car devices that log over a wired connection
- Fleet and commercial vehicles, alongside our IP68 industrial data cable for exposed runs
- Custom console builds using a single USB-C female car dashboard flush mount extension
Whether a wired projection session starts is decided by the head unit and the handset; the cable’s job is to present a proper data path, which is what this build is wired for.
How to specify
- Case allowance on the phone end, measured on the case you actually use.
- Straight or 90 degree, and which way the plug has to turn.
- Length, and whether a coiled section is needed.
- Data class required by the head unit, not the highest one available.
- Temperature and exposure – sun load, coolant, cleaning agents.
- Quantity, and whether this is a prototype or a production order.
Workmanship and testing
The line works to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 under ISO 9001, terminating 32 to 12 AWG. Every unit gets a continuity and pinout test before it is packed. Seal checking on the production batch is available when an ingress rating is in the specification.
Custom builds and ordering
Prototype quantity starts at 5 pcs with a 3 working day turnaround, and production starts at MOQ 500 pcs shipping 14 working days after approval. Where a new tool is needed, allow about 10 working days. We ship OEM and ODM builds under your part number and labeling, and can provide material certificates and first-article reports.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will my phone projection work with this cable?
The cable presents the data path the head unit expects. Whether the session starts is set by the head unit and the handset, but a charge-only lead will never start it.
The plug will not seat with my case on. What now?
Check the case allowance against the 90 degree molding. The quoted figure is around 2 to 2.5 mm, and a millimeter is the difference between seating fully and not.
Is the coiled version worth it?
Yes if the lead crosses the gear lever or hangs where it gets caught. A coiled section retracts instead of looping.
What is the minimum order?
5 pcs minimum for prototypes, shipping in 3 working days. Production runs of 500 pcs and up ship 14 working days after approval.
