IP67 Waterproof USB-C Screw Cable, USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 20Gbps, Panel Mount Option

A waterproof usb-c screw cable that keeps USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 20 Gb/s signaling intact while sealing the interface against water and dust. Threaded coupling ring or dual-screw retention, plug-to-plug or plug-to-panel receptacle, built for outdoor enclosures and vehicle service ports.

Description

Overview

Sealing a USB-C interface and keeping a 20 Gb/s link intact pull the design in opposite directions, and that tension is what this waterproof USB-C screw cable is built around. A thicker molded shell and a compressed gasket make the seal; the same bulk and the same clamping force disturb the geometry the high-speed pairs depend on. We resolve it by holding the pair geometry through the overmold and by treating the seal as a separate, testable element.

The design conflict: sealing versus 20 Gb/s

Every change that improves the seal tends to cost you signal, and every change that improves the signal tends to open a leak path. The table below is how the trade is actually made on this build.

Design elementWhat it buys youWhat it costs youHow it is handled here
Compressed face gasketWater and dust stay out of the mating interfacePushes the plug back along its axis, adding contact resistance variationSeal load is carried by the shell and the coupling thread, not by the contacts
Thick molded shellMechanical strength and a tamper-resistant housingBulk at the port, and a clamp force on the high-speed pairsThe overmold grips the cable, not the pair bundle
Cable gland at the exitStops water wicking along the coresA hard point where flexing concentratesBend relief is molded as part of the body so the flex starts outside the seal
Sealed panel receptacleKeeps the seal line on the panel, not on the cableNeeds panel cutout space and rear clearanceCutout drawing is confirmed before release

What the ingress rating means here

The IP code defined in IEC 60529 is the industry-general reference: the first digit is solid ingress, with 6 meaning dust-tight, and the second is liquid, with 6 covering powerful jets and 7 and 8 covering immersion under stated conditions. A rating applies to a mated pair; an unmated receptacle is an open port, which is why the mating cap matters as much as the plug. This range is offered in IP66 and IP68 mated configurations, and the class your assembly is built and verified to is the one stated on your drawing.

Two build styles

Both styles use the same bulk cable, because the choice is usually dictated by the equipment side rather than by preference.

  • Plug to plug: sealed USB-C male connectors at both ends, for joining two devices or an enclosure to a host.
  • Plug to panel receptacle: USB-C male on one end and a panel-mount USB-C female on the other, so a bulkhead passes the interface through a cabinet wall with the seal line on the panel — the waterproof USB-C panel pigtail covers the short panel-side version.
  • Retention by threaded coupling ring or by dual screws, depending on the mating hardware.

Performance

  • USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 signaling up to 20 Gb/s over both lane pairs.
  • USB Power Delivery from 100 W to 240 W depending on the build and the E-Marker fitted.
  • High-speed pairs screened individually, with a 360-degree bond to the plug shell.
  • Wide operating temperature range for unheated outdoor enclosures.
  • Backward compatible with earlier USB-C hosts and devices at the rate both ends support.

The achievable data rate and power profile are always set by the lowest common denominator in the chain, so we recommend a sample evaluation on the actual host hardware before volume release.

Where a sealed interface is not optional

  • Any port that faces the weather and is not under a cover or a drip loop.
  • Equipment washed down rather than wiped, where detergent film reaches the connector face.
  • Coastal and marine installations, where salt-laden air attacks contact plating.
  • Vehicle and machinery service ports that are opened outdoors by a technician.

For cabinet penetrations that never get unmated, the waterproof USB-C bulkhead cable puts the seal on the panel instead.

Typical applications for this waterproof USB-C screw cable

  • Outdoor machine vision and traffic monitoring enclosures
  • EV and commercial vehicle diagnostic or service ports
  • Construction and agricultural machinery operator stations
  • Marine electronics and renewable energy monitoring cabinets
  • Panel service interfaces on control cabinets, alongside the control cabinet service interface

Ordering notes

Standard lengths are 1, 2, 3 and 5 m. Because the sealed shell adds bulk at both ends, we confirm the panel cutout drawing and the clearance behind the panel before release. Cable jacket, color and print legend are configurable on production quantities, and mating caps for the panel receptacle can be supplied tethered so they are not left off after service.

IP67 Waterproof USB-C Screw prototypes start from 1 to 50 pcs and ship in 3 working days. Series supply starts at 500 pcs and takes 14 working days after approval. Tooling not already held adds around 10 working days. IP67 builds ship under your part number and labeling for OEM and ODM orders, and material certificates and first-article reports can be supplied.

Workmanship and testing

Terminations on IP67 Waterproof USB-C Screw builds run from 32 to 12 AWG, and the work is held to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 inside an ISO 9001 system. Every IP67 unit is checked for continuity and pinout before packing, and seal checking is quoted whenever an ingress rating is on the drawing.

Every production run can ship with RoHS and REACH declarations and the electrical report agreed at quotation; see certifications and material declarations. UL styles and other named approvals are built to drawing: we source to the style you specify and document it, rather than asserting a listing we do not hold. For the sealed version we follow the gasket path and overmold-to-jacket bond practices documented under IP67 and IP68 sealing structures. Related reading: our build-to-print process. Tooling is quoted separately, cut in-house rather than brokered out, and owned by you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the seal reduce the data rate?

It can, if the shell clamps the pair bundle or the exit gland creates a hard point. This build keeps the seal load on the shell and molds the bend relief into the body so the pairs are not compressed.

Is IP67 the same as IP68?

No. Under IEC 60529 the second digit differs: 7 is 30 minutes at 1 m, 8 is continuous immersion at a depth agreed with the manufacturer. We build to the class stated on your drawing.

Can I get the panel receptacle separately?

Yes. Panel-mount USB-C receptacles and pigtails are a standard part of the range, with or without a tethered cap.

Will it charge a laptop at 240 W?

Only if the source, the sink and the cable electronics all support the EPR profile. We confirm that on your hardware before volume release.

What is the minimum order?

Prototypes are quoted from 1 to 50 pcs, built and shipped within 3 working days. Production is quoted from 500 pcs with 14 working days after you sign off the sample.
