IP67 2-Pin Waterproof Connector Cable

This 2pin connector cable is a sealed low-voltage DC drop with an overmolded screw-lock connector at each end and an internal O-ring seal. Two 22 AWG tinned copper conductors in PVC or PUR, built to your length for outdoor lighting, marine electronics and wash-down areas.

Description

Overview

A 2pin connector cable is the simplest sealed DC drop there is: supply and return, screw-lock coupling, sealed to IP67 when the two halves are tightened. This one is two 22 AWG stranded tinned copper conductors in a PVC or PUR jacket, with an overmolded screw-lock connector at each end, a TPE strain-relief boot and an internal O-ring on the mating face. It is built for outdoor LED lighting, garden equipment, marine electronics and low-voltage DC drops in wash-down areas, from 0.5 m to 5 m as standard.

What IP67 does and does not cover on this 2pin connector cable

IP67 is defined by a test, not by a feeling about the weather. The first digit covers dust – a 6 means dust-tight, so no ingress at all in the standard test. The second covers water, and a 7 means the enclosure survives temporary immersion under stated conditions of depth and time. What a 7 does not promise is resistance to a pressure washer, to prolonged submersion, or to a jet aimed at the seal – those belong to higher ratings. It also says nothing about UV, about the jacket, or about what happens to the cable a meter away from the connector. Read the rating as being about the mated pair, which is exactly what it tests.

ClaimWhat it actually meansWhat it does not mean
IP6xDust-tight in the standard testSealed against fine powder under pressure
IPx7Survives temporary immersion under stated conditionsSafe for permanent submersion or jet washing
IP67 matedApplies when the two halves are tightenedApplies to an unmated connector or a hand-tight coupling
Jacket ratingAbout the cable, not the connectorA substitute for mechanical protection on the run

Hand-tight is not a rated condition, and the table is a contract for the mated pair only. The IP rating reference spells out the test behind every digit, including where jet and immersion classes stop being comparable.

Where a sealed 2-pin drop actually leaks

Almost never through the O-ring on a connector that was properly tightened. The three places water gets in are the back of the connector where the cable enters, the cable itself if the jacket has been nicked during installation, and a coupling that was done up by hand and left a quarter turn short. The first two are why we mold the connector onto the cable rather than assembling it, and why the strain-relief boot is part of the same overmold rather than a sleeve pushed on afterwards. The third is installation, and it is worth writing into the method statement: tighten until the faces meet, not until it feels tight.

PVC or PUR: picking the jacket for the site

PVC is the default and it is fine for a fixed outdoor run that does not see oil. PUR costs more and earns it where the cable will be dragged, where it sits in sunlight for years, or where there is oil, coolant or fuel in the environment – it is tougher, it handles abrasion better and it stays flexible in the cold. If the drop is on a machine that gets washed down, or on a boat, or buried in a landscape bed where someone will eventually strike it with a spade, specify PUR. If it is under an eaves lighting a sign, PVC will do the job for years.

Build the current budget before you order

This assembly is rated 5 A continuous at up to 24 V DC, and the thing that catches people out on a low-voltage DC drop is not the connector rating, it is voltage drop over distance. Twenty-four volts does not have much headroom: a long run at 22 AWG loses enough volts that an LED driver or a control board at the far end sees less than it needs, and the symptom is a device that works on the bench and misbehaves in the field. Work out the load current and the one-way length before you choose the conductor. If the numbers are tight, we can build with a larger conductor – the connector stays the same.

Installation details that decide whether the seal holds

Four things, all cheap, all skipped. Support the cable so its weight is not hanging off the connector. Leave a drip loop below the mating point so water runs off the cable rather than along it and into the face. Keep the bend radius generous at the connector exit – a tight bend pulls the boot away from the body and opens the one seam you cannot see. And cap or mate unused connectors immediately, because an unmated half sitting in a tray is not IP67, it is a funnel.

Typical applications for this 2pin connector cable

  • Outdoor LED strip and garden lighting drops
  • Marine electronics and 12 V DC boat wiring
  • Low-voltage landscape lighting and signage
  • Sealed DC power drops in wash-down environments
  • Sensor and actuator drops on outdoor equipment

How to specify your build

  1. Conductor size, from the load current and the run length.
  2. Jacket – PVC or PUR – and the color.
  3. Length, measured along the route with a drip loop allowed for.
  4. Connector color, if the site is coded by circuit.
  5. Label print, if the drops need identifying after installation.
  6. Quantity, and whether this is a sample or a production order.

Workmanship and testing

Workmanship on IP67 2-Pin Waterproof Connector builds follows IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3, the line is run under ISO 9001, and the termination range is 32 to 12 AWG. Every IP67 unit is checked for continuity and pinout before packing, and seal checking is quoted whenever an ingress rating is on the drawing.

Material declarations against RoHS and REACH are issued per project, alongside the dimensional and electrical reports agreed at quotation; see certifications, compliance and material declarations. Where your drawing names a UL style or another approval, the build follows your drawing and ships with the supporting document rather than a claim of our own. Sealing follows the insert, gasket and overmold-bond method described under IP-rated sealing validation, so the rating comes from the joint design rather than from the connector datasheet alone. The wider context is covered under our test and measurement work. Tooling for this build is cut in our own tool room and belongs to your program, so a repeat run years later starts from the same tool.

Custom builds and ordering

Prototypes are quoted from 1 to 50 pcs and ship within 3 working days. Volume production starts at 500 pcs with a 14 working day lead time after approval, and about 10 working days more when a new tool is needed. Private labeling carries your part number, and material certificates with first-article reports are available on request.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this stay permanently underwater?

No. IP67 covers temporary immersion under stated conditions. For permanent submersion you need a higher rating – tell us the depth and duration and we will quote accordingly.

Will it survive a pressure washer?

A jet aimed at the seal is beyond what a 7 rating tests. Route and shield the connection, or specify a higher rating for wash-down duty.

Can I get a larger conductor for a longer run?

Yes. The connector stays the same; we build with a larger conductor where the voltage drop needs it. Send the load current and the length.

Is the seal tested on the production batch?

Where an ingress rating is specified we can quote seal checking on the batch. Continuity and pinout are verified on 100% of units.
