IP67 Waterproof M12 Molded Cable
An IP67 waterproof M12 molded cable built to the coding, pin count, jacket and length your machine needs. One overmolded assembly from connector face to cable exit — send the pinout and we build to it.
Overview
An IP67 waterproof M12 molded cable is one assembly, not a connector with a length of cable pushed onto it. The coupling nut, the contacts, the overmold and the jacket are designed together, so the seal sits at the molded body instead of at a joint that fails the first time the machine gets hosed down. We build it to the coding, pin count, jacket and length on your drawing.

Which M12 coding do you need?
Coding is the mechanical keyway that stops the wrong plug going into the wrong port. It is set out in IEC 61076-2-101 for the A, B, C and D codes, IEC 61076-2-109 for X, and IEC 61076-2-111 for the power codes, and it is the single decision that decides what the cable can carry. Choose by the signal, not by the pin count:
| Code | Pins | Carries | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | 3 / 4 / 5 / 8 / 12 | DC power and sensor signals | Proximity and photoelectric sensors, valve connectors, IO-Link |
| B | 5 | PROFIBUS-DP fieldbus | Legacy PLC and drive networks |
| C | 3-6 | AC power | AC sensors and actuators |
| D | 4 | 100 Mbit/s Ethernet | PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT |
| X | 8 | Up to 10 Gbit/s Ethernet | Machine vision, Cat6A runs |
| S / K | 3-5 + PE | AC power to 630 V | Motor feeds, power distribution |
| T / L | 4-5 | DC power to 63 V | IO-Link power, AGV and drive supplies |
The M12 connector family covers all of these in the same 12 mm shell, which is exactly why the coding matters — they are the same size and they will not mate with each other. If you are replacing an existing cable, the code is almost always molded into the connector body. Read it off the old part before you specify.
If you need the rest of the codes rather than the seven above, our M12 connector coding reference is a two-page PDF covering every code letter from A to Y: the pole counts each normally appears in, what each is used for, which codes will not mate, and the three specification traps that cost the most. Free to download, and it does not ask for an email address.
A-coded pinout reference
These are the wire colors most sensor makers follow, not a guarantee. We wire to the pinout you send, not to a color chart — if your device is wired differently, say so on the order.
| Pin | Color | 3-pin | 4-pin | 5-pin |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Brown | +V | +V (24 V DC) | +V |
| 2 | White | Signal | Signal 2 | Signal 2 |
| 3 | Blue | 0 V | 0 V | 0 V |
| 4 | Black | – | Signal 1 | Signal 1 (IO-Link C/Q) |
| 5 | Gray | – | – | Functional earth or spare |
What IP67 actually covers
IP ratings come from IEC 60529. The first digit is solid ingress and 6 means dust-tight. The second is liquid: 7 is 30 minutes at 1 m, 8 is continuous immersion at a depth agreed with the manufacturer, and 9K (from ISO 20653) is high-pressure hot washdown.
Three seals decide whether a build holds its rating in service — between the two connector halves, where the cable enters the overmold, and at the panel or device. A rating applies to a mated pair; an unmated connector on a spare port is an open port. Where the run sees caustic washdown rather than weather, specify our M12 IP69K washdown cable with stainless steel coupling nut instead.
Jacket and overmold
- PVC — the default. General purpose, good flex life, lowest cost.
- PUR — for cutting oil, coolant, welding spark and drag chains. Costs more and outlasts PVC by a wide margin.
- TPE — where the run sees both low temperature and continuous flexing.
The overmold carries the strain. It is tooled to your connector so the bend relief starts where the cable leaves the body, not 10 mm down the cable where the flexing does the damage. We hold 100 sets of mold tooling in house, so a standard body costs no tooling time and a new one adds about 10 working days.
Typical applications for this IP67 waterproof M12 molded cable
- Sensor and actuator wiring on packaging, filling and assembly machines
- Outdoor and washdown equipment — gates, barriers, weigh pads, kiosks
- Food and beverage lines hosed down at shift change
- Mobile and agricultural machinery, alongside our M12 ISOBUS Lite cable
- Valve islands and I/O blocks in IP67 field installations
How to specify your build
- Coding and pin count — read it off the existing connector, or give us the device part number.
- End configuration — male or female, straight or right-angle, on each end.
- Length, and whether the run is fixed or moving.
- Jacket — PVC, PUR or TPE, and what it will be exposed to.
- Shielded or unshielded.
- Pinout, if it differs from the standard colors.
- Quantity, and whether this is a prototype or a production order.
A drawing, a photo of the existing cable, or just the device part number is enough to start. We come back with a build we can hold to.
Workmanship and testing
Assembly and inspection follow IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship criteria under our ISO 9001 quality management system, and every unit passes 100% continuity and pinout testing before it is packed. Conductor range is 32 to 12 AWG. Where an ingress rating is specified we can quote seal testing on the production batch. Ratings quoted for the M12 interface itself are the industry-standard values for that coding; the values your assembly is built and verified to are the ones stated on your drawing.
RoHS and REACH declarations are provided per project together with the agreed test reports; the documentation scope is listed under certifications and compliance. If your drawing specifies a UL style, we build to that drawing and supply the UL reference with the shipment instead of substituting an equivalent. Flex life is a construction decision made before tooling, following the conductor and jacket approach set out under high-flex drag chain harness builds. The wider context is covered under cable assemblies for industrial automation and robotics. Any tooling we cut for this part stays yours, maintained in our own tool room under your part reference.
Custom builds and ordering
IP67 Waterproof M12 Molded prototype lots start from 1 to 50 pcs and ship in 3 working days. Production requires 500 pcs and runs 14 working days after approval. Tooling not already held adds around 10 working days. Your part number and labeling go on OEM and ODM IP67 shipments, and we provide material certificates and first-article reports when asked.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is IP67 enough for a washdown area?
Usually not. IP67 covers immersion, not high-pressure hot water. Food and beverage lines normally specify IP69K to ISO 20653 with a stainless coupling nut — our IP69K washdown cable is built for that.
Can I have a right-angle connector on one end?
Yes, straight or right-angle on either end. On a right-angle body the cable exit can be clocked to the run so it does not foul the housing.
Do you build the mating panel connector as well?
Yes. Bulkhead and panel-mount receptacles are a standard part of the build, with flying leads or a second connector on the back.
What is the minimum order?
IP67 Waterproof M12 Molded prototype lots start from 1 to 50 pcs and ship in 3 working days. Production requires 500 pcs and runs 14 working days after approval.
My existing cable has no markings. How do I identify the coding?
Send a photo of the connector face. The keyway position identifies the code, and pin count and gender can usually be read off the same photo.
