This M12 rail signal cable is made for door control and brake sensors.
Not every connector on a vehicle carries Ethernet. The majority of them carry the ordinary signals that make a bus or a train car work: door open and closed feedback, door obstruction edges, brake wear and brake pressure sensors, HVAC temperature probes, saloon and step lighting, and the passenger counting beams over the doorways. This m12 rail signal cable covers that layer, in A-coded four, five and eight position versions and in D-coded four position versions where the run is Fast Ethernet rather than discrete IO.
A-coded or D-coded on the same vehicle
The choice is decided by what the device is, not by preference. A door controller doing discrete IO and analogue inputs takes an A-coded connector; a door-mounted camera or an Ethernet passenger counter takes D-coded, because D-coding keeps the two data pairs separated through the mating face and preserves the 100 ohm channel. Mixing them on one vehicle is normal and is not a problem as long as the two codings are never interchangeable at the point of use, which the keyways guarantee. Confirm the coding on both ends during design.
Why the jacket chemistry matters here
Vehicle interiors are enclosed spaces, so the fire, smoke and toxicity behavior of the jacket is a specification item rather than a nice-to-have. The halogen-free compounds used in these ranges, of the SABIX and RADOX type, do not release halogen acid gases when they burn and they keep their flexibility at the temperature extremes a vehicle sees. Oil and fuel resistance and fire performance to EN 45545-2 are quoted in competitor literature and need supplier test evidence before we state them as our own.

Ordering notes
These assemblies are normally supplied at fixed lengths of 1.5, 2, 5 and 10 meters with halogen-free overmoulding, in straight or right-angle versions depending on the depth behind the panel. Where a run passes through a bulkhead, a panel feedthrough receptacle is usually a better answer than a grommet, because it keeps the ingress rating of the enclosure intact. Give us the device pinout on both ends; on signal cables the pin assignment is where most rework originates.

Temperature range, ingress rating, fire classification, oil and fuel resistance and the vibration category quoted for this range come from public competitor data rather than a verified datasheet for our part. A -40 to +120 C range and an IP67 rating are quoted for comparable assemblies; both are plausible for this jacket type and both need a test report before they belong on a specification.
