One Cable for Both Kinds of Port

Field installations usually mix two types of equipment: sealed enclosure hardware with an IP67 Ethernet jack, and ordinary office-grade gear with a standard RJ45 port. Carrying two jumper types and an adapter is how field kits end up short of the right part. The retractable shroud on this plug slides back far enough to expose a plain RJ45 plug for a standard port, and slides forward to engage the threaded collar of a sealed jack. One part covers both.

How the Shroud Works

• Shroud retracted: the plug mates with any standard RJ45 jack, including unsealed switch and laptop ports.
• Shroud extended and screwed down: the plug seals against an IP67 receptacle and is retained by the coupling thread.
• A tethered dust cap protects the plug face when it is not mated, and stays attached so it is not left in a case pocket.

Because the shroud is part of the plug rather than a separate adapter, there is no loose component to lose on site and no extra unsealed joint in the seal path.

Cable Construction

The bulk cable is foil shielded, with the screen terminated through the plug shell on both ends so the shield is continuous past the connector rather than stopping at the crimp. Category options cover Cat5e, Cat6 and Cat6A depending on the link budget and the length of the run. For permanent outdoor installation the jacket is specified for outdoor use, with resistance to sunlight, moisture and flame spread appropriate to outside plant routing.

Fitment Notes

The retractable shroud is designed around the common sealed RJ45 receptacle interface used on industrial and outdoor equipment. Receptacles vary in collar depth and thread form between manufacturers, so we confirm the mating hardware drawing before production, particularly on retrofit work where the existing jack is already installed.

Ordering

Standard lengths are 1, 2, 4 and 5 m, with other lengths on request. Category, jacket colour and print legend are configurable on production quantities. Where a run is permanently exposed, we recommend specifying the mating panel receptacle and the dust cap together with the jumper so the seal is qualified as a system rather than as two parts bought separately.
