Cat6A IP67 Industrial Pigtail, S/FTP RJ45 with Dust Cap

A Cat6A IP67 industrial pigtail that gets a shielded link through a cabinet wall without leaving a connector exposed: threaded sealing coupler with a tethered dust cap on one end, flying shielded RJ45 on the other. Stranded S/FTP, PoE++ capable.

Description

Overview

A Cat6A IP67 industrial pigtail solves one specific problem: getting a shielded Ethernet link through a cabinet wall or into a sealed housing without leaving a connector exposed. The bulkhead side terminates in a threaded sealing coupler with a tethered dust cap, and the other side presents a flying shielded RJ45 plug – or the reverse, depending on which end of the run is harder to reach. It is the part that lets you close the enclosure and still service the link.

Three states, and only one of them is sealed

An ingress rating describes a mated pair, not a connector. This is where sealed installations go wrong: the coupler is fitted, the rating goes on the drawing, and then the port spends most of its life unmated. The table below is the honest version.

StateWhat is protectedWhat to do about it
Mated to a sealed plugFull IP67 on the assemblyTighten the coupling to the specified torque and support the cable
Capped with the tethered dust capDust and splashes, not immersionFit the cap every time – it is tethered precisely so it does not get lost
Open and unmatedNothingTreat as an open port; do not rely on the rating

The coupling must be tightened to the specified torque and the cable must be supported so that strain does not pull the seal out of alignment. A pigtail that is correctly rated but installed unsupported will still leak.

Only the first of those three states has a number attached, and a rated coupling standing open is protected by nothing. Our IP rating reference sets out the test conditions behind each class.

The dust cap is the part people lose

On a pole-mounted camera or an outdoor cabinet the coupler is only mated once, at installation. After that it sits open through every service visit, every washdown and every season. A tethered cap means it is still attached when the technician comes back down the ladder; a loose cap ends up in a pocket and then in a bin. If you are specifying these for a fleet of outdoor enclosures, say so and we will make the tether standard on every unit rather than an option.

The RJ45 interface is unchanged inside the sealed shell, so the pigtail is transparent to the network – the sealing hardware is what you are buying, not a different pinout. Confirm the rating and the test method against the test report before writing it into a project specification.

Power over the same cable

The assembly is intended for IEEE 802.3bt powered devices, so a single drop serves cameras, access points and small-cell radios without a separate mains feed. Pair resistance rises with length and with temperature, so voltage drop deserves a check on the longest runs feeding high-draw devices – and a sealed enclosure in full sun is a hotter environment than the one the device datasheet assumes.

Where it replaces a standard lead

  • Outdoor telecommunications cabinets and street-side enclosures
  • IP cameras on poles and building corners
  • LED and video-wall tiles, where the link passes through a sealed panel
  • Weighbridges, gate controllers and kiosk enclosures
  • Food-production areas where hose-down cleaning is routine
  • Buried or trenched runs using our Cat6A outdoor direct-burial patch cord

It is the Category 6A successor to the Category 6 sealed pigtails in this range, and the two share the same panel cut-out, so existing enclosures can be upgraded without new drilling. Where the enclosure is washed with high-pressure hot water rather than weather, look at our Cat6A IP69K washdown patch cord instead.

Typical applications for this Cat6A IP67 industrial pigtail

  • Cabinet feed-throughs that have to stay serviceable
  • PoE cameras and wireless access points on external walls
  • Rental and temporary structures where the enclosure is opened repeatedly
  • LED wall panels exposed to weather
  • Marine and dockside equipment enclosures
  • Industrial enclosures upgraded from our Cat6 S/FTP IP67 pigtail patch cord

Ordering

Standard stock lengths are 1, 2, 3, 5 and 10 m; other lengths on request. Tell us which end needs the coupler, whether the cap should be tethered, and whether the enclosure is washed down or simply weather-exposed.

Workmanship and testing

Build standard for Cat6A IP67 Industrial builds is IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 under ISO 9001, with terminations from 32 to 12 AWG. 100% continuity and pinout are checked on every Cat6A unit before packing, and seal checking is quoted whenever an ingress rating is on the drawing.

Every production run can ship with RoHS and REACH declarations and the electrical report agreed at quotation; see certifications and material declarations. UL styles and other named approvals are built to drawing: we source to the style you specify and document it, rather than asserting a listing we do not hold. For the sealed version we follow the gasket path and overmold-to-jacket bond practices documented under IP-rated sealing validation. The wider context is covered under cable assemblies for industrial automation and robotics. Tooling is quoted separately, cut in-house rather than brokered out, and owned by you.

Custom builds and ordering

On Cat6A IP67 Industrial builds, prototype lots run from 1 to 50 pcs and leave in 3 working days; production runs of 500 pcs and up ship 14 working days after approval. Tooling not already held adds around 10 working days. Cat6A OEM and ODM shipments carry your part number and labeling, and material certificates plus first-article reports are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the pigtail IP67 when the cap is fitted?

The cap protects against dust and splashes during service intervals. The IP rating applies to the mated pair – keep the distinction on the drawing.

Can it carry PoE to a camera?

Yes. It is intended for IEEE 802.3bt powered devices. Check voltage drop on the longest runs, especially in a sun-loaded enclosure.

Does it fit the same panel cut-out as the Cat6 version?

Yes. The Category 6A pigtail shares the cut-out with the Category 6 parts already in this range.

Which end gets the coupler?

Whichever end is harder to reach once the installation is finished. We build either configuration.
