The Mismatch This Cable Solves

Machine vision cameras, robot end effectors and vision sensors on the line usually expose an M12 X-coded port, while the receiving end — an industrial PC, a managed switch or a frame grabber in the cabinet — still presents an ordinary RJ45 jack. Running a standard patch cord across that boundary leaves two problems unsolved: the RJ45 latch has nothing to hold it against vibration, and the M12 side is the only sealed half of the link. This assembly carries the four Ethernet pairs across the boundary with a sealed circular side and a mechanically retained RJ45 side, so the mechanical design of the machine, not the connector, becomes the weak point.

Connector Configuration

The circular end is an 8-position X-coded M12 male. X-coding sets the keyway so the plug will not enter A-, B- or D-coded receptacles, which removes the risk of a technician forcing a fieldbus or power connector into a 10-gigabit Ethernet port during maintenance.

  • M12 8-pin X-coded male, straight or 90-degree overmold, pinout per IEC 61076-2-109.
  • Screw-lock RJ45 male with captive knurled thumb screws; no latch to break, no tool needed.
  • Thumb-screw pitch options: 25 mm default, 20 mm and 27 mm available for different jack collars.
  • M12 contacts gold plated 10 microinch; RJ45 contacts gold plated 50 microinch.

Cable Construction

The bulk cable is 26AWG stranded (7 strands) S/FTP: each pair is wrapped in foil and the four pairs sit under an overall braid. Pair foils keep alien crosstalk between the four pairs low enough for 10GBASE-T over short machine-mounted runs, while the braid handles the broadband noise picked up next to servo drives and weld controls. The black PUR (TPU) jacket resists cutting oil, coolant mist and repeated abrasion against cable track, and stays flexible at the low end of the temperature range where PVC begins to stiffen.

  • IP67 sealing at the M12 side in the mated state; RJ45 side is IP20 and is intended to sit inside an enclosure or a panel cutout.

Build Options

Standard lengths are 0.5 m to 20 m. Straight and right-angle M12 overmolds are both available, and the right-angle version can be ordered with the cable exiting in four different clocking directions to clear neighbouring ports on a crowded camera body. Jacket colour, print legend, shielding variant and the length of the RJ45 thumb screws are all configurable on production quantities.
