Cat6A M12 X-Coded Patch Cord, 8-Pin M12 to RJ45, PUR
One Circular End, One RJ45 End
Most industrial Ethernet devices present an M12 port, while switches and frame grabbers present RJ45. This Cat6A M12 X-coded patch cord bridges the two: an 8-pin X-coded M12 plug per IEC 61076-2-109 at the device, a standard shielded RJ45 at the network side. Because both ends are factory terminated and tested, the assembly removes the most common failure point in machine-vision installations, which is a field-crimped connector that looked fine on the bench and lost pairs under vibration.
Why X-Coding
X-coding places the four pairs in a quadrant arrangement that keeps them separated inside the circular shell, which is what allows the connector to reach Category 6A performance. The older D-coded and A-coded variants are not interchangeable with X-coded ports; the keyways are deliberately different so that a 100 Mbit/s cable cannot be plugged into a 10G port and silently downgrade the link. Check the coding stamped on the device port before ordering – the shells look similar at a glance.
Build
- Cable: Category 6A S/FTP, 26 AWG stranded copper
- Jacket: halogen-free PUR, oil- and coolant-resistant
- Connector A: M12, 8-pin, X-coded, male, straight or right-angle
- Connector B: shielded RJ45 plug
- Sealing: IP67 in the mated condition on the M12 side; the RJ45 side is IP20 and belongs inside a cabinet
Applications
GigE Vision and 10GigE camera links, PROFINET and EtherNet/IP backbones running above 1 Gbit/s, robot workstations, and AGV or AMR platforms where the cable is flexed while the vehicle moves. The right-angle M12 variant is the usual choice where the connector sits behind a camera body with limited rear clearance.
Ratings to Confirm Before Specification
Current and voltage ratings for the M12 interface, the operating temperature window, and the ingress rating all depend on the specific insert and overmould used. Treat the figures in competitor literature as indicative and ask the supplier for the connector manufacturer data sheet plus the assembled-cable test report.
