M8 4-Pin A-Coded IP65 Waterproof Male-Female Power Cable

This M8 4 pin IP65 cable delivers low voltage DC power and sensor signals through an 8 mm A-coded shell where a 12 mm coupling nut will not fit. IEC 61076-2-104, IP65 / IP67 mated, 60 V / 4 A, 4 x 24 AWG, straight or right-angle, built to your drawing.

Description

Overview

An M8 4 pin IP65 cable answers a specific objection: the port exists, the panel is sealed, and there is simply no room for a 12 mm coupling nut. Four A-coded positions in an 8 mm shell give you a supply pair and two further conductors, rated here at 60 V and 4 A per pin, with the mated joint built to keep water out to IP65 and IP67 depending on how it is made up. The design question is not whether it fits, it is whether the current and the sealing duty sit honestly inside what this shell size can do.

What is the fourth pin actually for

People order four positions because the catalog lists them and then terminate two. Check what the device uses before you buy, because unused conductors are still paid for in diameter, stiffness and cost.

Positions usedAssignmentTypical device
3 of 4Supply pair plus one switched outputStandard three-wire sensor in a four-pin shell
4 of 4, complementarySupply pair plus NO and NC outputsPosition switches and dual-channel limit inputs
4 of 4, two netsTwo signal circuits sharing a common returnCompact dual sensor heads
4 of 4, power plus feedbackHigher duty supply with one signal lineSmall pilot valves and actuators with feedback

What pin four does is a pinout question; whether the plug fits at all is a coding question. Both are set out in the M12 and M8 coding reference in the download center, which walks through every letter with its usual pole counts and applications.

IP65 or IP67: what each number actually does

The second digit of the ingress code defined by the IEC is a test result, not a quality grade, and the two numbers of interest here are not versions of the same thing. Read them side by side and a lot of field disappointment disappears.

RatingWhat is testedWhat it tells you nothing about
IP65Low pressure water jet from a nozzle at a stated distanceImmersion, hot water, steam or cleaning chemicals
IP67Immersion in still water, 1 m depth for 30 minutesJet pressure, water temperature, or repeated thermal cycling
Neither oneNo automatic inheritance in either directionHow the joint behaves after a year of service and many cycles

We quote the rating for the mated joint as built. Whether the assembly holds it depends on things we do not control: the receptacle it mates into, how squarely the two halves go together, and whether the cable is supported so that nothing pulls the seal open.

Build the power budget before you order

This is where small connectors get into trouble. A per-contact current rating describes one contact pair under stated conditions. Real installations ask several questions at once, and any one of them can be the limiting case.

QuestionWhy it matters hereAnswer source
Steady current per contactThe baseline against the 4 A per pin class figureStated per your drawing
Inrush at switch-onSolenoids and lamps draw multiples of steady state when coldDevice datasheet
How many pins conduct togetherBundle heating derates every contact in the same shellConfirm at order
Ambient and tray temperatureContact resistance rises with temperature and derating bites earlierConfirm at order
Length of runVoltage drop usually hurts long before current doesStated per your drawing

If those come back uncomfortable the answer is not to push this shell harder. Move the power onto an L-coded DC power cordset and leave the M8 doing what it is good at: signals and a little local power.

Where the failure starts

Three repeat offenders, all mechanical. An overtightened nut deforms the shell so the seal no longer lands square and the rating becomes decorative. A cable left unsupported near the connector puts a bending moment on the strain relief until the crimp works loose. And an undersized strain relief in a flexing run turns the first bend into a fatigue point, because the stiffest part of an assembly is always the shortest one.

All three are cheaper to fix on the drawing than after commissioning. Tell us the routing, the movement and the medium, and the strain relief and jacket will be chosen for the duty rather than for the catalog photo.

Typical applications for this M8 4 pin IP65 cable

  • Low voltage DC power and sensor power in tight spaces behind machine frames
  • Compact dual-output position switches feeding safety or counting inputs
  • AGV and AMR signal decks where every connector needs to be small and light
  • Diagnostic and service drops on equipment that is washed rather than wiped
  • Distributing 24 V DC to small field devices from a local junction block

How to specify your build

  1. Ends – M8 male, female, straight or right-angle.
  2. Positions actually used, and what each pin carries.
  3. Length along the routed path, plus where it moves.
  4. Current per contact and the inrush figure if the load has one.
  5. Jacket – PVC indoors, TPU where coolant or oil is present.
  6. Quantity, prototype or production.

Workmanship and testing

ISO 9001 covers the system and IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 covers the work on M8 4-Pin A-Coded IP65 builds, across 32 to 12 AWG. No M8 unit is packed until 100% continuity and pinout check out, and seal checking is quoted whenever an ingress rating is on the drawing.

Material declarations against RoHS and REACH are issued per project, alongside the dimensional and electrical reports agreed at quotation; see certifications, compliance and material declarations. Where your drawing names a UL style or another approval, the build follows your drawing and ships with the supporting document rather than a claim of our own. For the sealed version we follow the gasket path and overmold-to-jacket bond practices documented under IP-rated sealing validation. The wider context is covered under what automation programs ask for. Tooling for this build is cut in our own tool room and belongs to your program, so a repeat run years later starts from the same tool.

Custom builds and ordering

M8 4-Pin A-Coded IP65 lots run from 1 to 50 pcs, out in 3 working days; volume starts at MOQ 500 pcs shipping 14 working days after approval. Tooling not already held adds around 10 working days. M8 orders go out under your part number and labeling, OEM or ODM, and material certificates and first-article reports are on offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IP67 always better than IP65?

No. They test different things. IP67 covers temporary immersion and says nothing about spray, and IP65 covers spray and says nothing about immersion. Specify the one matching the actual duty, or both.

Can I run 4 A through a size-8 shell?

Treat 4 A as the class figure for the contact under stated conditions and derate for temperature and simultaneous load. Your drawing is what we build and verify to.

What if the load has a large inrush?

Tell us before ordering. Solenoids and lamps often need a different approach, and sometimes a larger power connector on a separate drop.

Do you supply the panel receptacle too?

Yes, including bulkhead versions with flying leads or a second connector on the back.

How short can the length be?

Down to a few hundred millimeters. Long runs are worth checking for voltage drop first.
