Machine to Machine, Both Ends Industrial

Where the previous product meets a switch, this one meets another machine. A Cat6A M12 X-code link cable carries X-coded 8-pin plugs at both ends, so the whole run stays sealed and vibration-proof from cabinet to cabinet, across a gantry, or between a controller and a remote I/O block. It uses the same Category 6A S/FTP cable construction as the M12-to-RJ45 version, so performance is identical; only the termination changes.

Construction

• Cable: Category 6A S/FTP, 26 AWG stranded copper, four individually foiled pairs
• Overall screen: tinned-copper braid for low transfer impedance at high frequency
• Jacket: halogen-free PUR, resistant to oil and common coolants
• Connectors: M12, 8-pin, X-coded, male, both ends
• Sealing: IP67 in the mated condition at both ends

Choosing Between X-Code and D-Code

X-code carries 10GBASE-T. D-code carries Fast Ethernet and Gigabit over two pairs and remains the right answer for 100 Mbit/s PROFINET device drops, where the connectors are cheaper and the cable is more flexible because it holds fewer pairs. Specifying X-code everywhere is not automatically better: it costs more and the larger shell may not fit the port spacing on older devices. A practical approach is X-code on the backbone between machines and D-code on the device drops underneath, and a D-coded Category 5e version of this assembly is available for exactly that split.

Routing and Handling

• Support the cable at both ends; the seal is not a strain relief.
• Keep the run out of the weld-spatter zone, or specify a protective sleeve.
• Do not mix codings across a link – a D-coded plug will not seat in an X-coded port, and adapters defeat the shielding.

Ordering

Assemblies are supplied to length with straight or right-angle plugs in any combination. Send the port coding, required length and the environment – oil, coolant, outdoor UV or washdown – and the bill of material can be confirmed against a drawing before tooling.
