USB-C Screw Locking Cable, Side or Top Screw Retention, 10Gbps 100W / 240W
Two Retention Styles, One Cable
OEM enclosure designers generally specify one of two screw positions on the device jack, and once a panel is tooled the choice is fixed. We build the same cable both ways so a customer is not forced to redesign a faceplate after the mechanical layout is frozen.
Side Screw Variant
The two screws sit on the broad faces of the plug, one on each side of the connector, engaging threaded posts in the receptacle. This is the more common of the two in docking and enclosure work because it loads the plug symmetrically and lets the cable be dressed flat against a surface.
Top Screw Variant
The screws sit on the narrow face, above and below the connector tongue. This variant is chosen where the surrounding hardware leaves no room on the sides of the plug, for example in a kiosk bezel or a densely packed backplane, and it keeps the same captive knurled screws as the side variant.
Both variants use removable knurled M2 screws, captive in the overmold so they stay with the assembly. Removable screws mean a damaged thread can be replaced in the field without discarding the cable.
Data and Power
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 signalling, 10 Gb/s.
- Power delivery at 100 W (PD 3.0) or 240 W (PD 3.1 EPR), selected by build.
- Aluminium foil plus mylar wrap with roughly 85 percent braid coverage.
- TPE jacket for a small bend radius in tight enclosures.
- Standard lengths 0.5 m, 1 m and 2 m.
The 240 W build is the one to specify when the cable is also carrying display and data to a dock or a drive enclosure that powers downstream devices. It requires the source, the sink and the cable electronics to all support the EPR profile, so we confirm the power contract on the customer hardware before volume release rather than assuming it.
Applications
- Docking stations and multi-port expansion enclosures.
- External drive enclosures where a disconnection during a write is unacceptable.
- POS terminals, kiosks and self-service machines that are serviced but not supervised.
- Industrial tablets and panel PCs mounted on vehicles or machinery.
Fitment and Verification
Where a customer reference design uses a particular brand of locking cable, we supply an equivalent assembly and confirm the screw pitch and plug outline against the drawing; brand names are used only to describe fitment, and these parts are not supplied or endorsed by any third-party brand owner. We recommend a sample evaluation on the actual device, since screw post depth varies between receptacle manufacturers even when the pitch matches.
