RJ14C 6-Pin Modular Patch Cord (24 AWG Stranded, 2 Twisted Pairs)
An rj14c 6 pin modular patch cord carrying two lines on a 6-position plug: one pair on the center pins, the second outside it. Built to your pinout and length.
Overview
An rj14c 6 pin modular patch cord carries two telephone lines on a six-position modular plug: one pair on the center pins, the second pair outside it. It is a voice and low-voltage signaling cord, not a network cord, and it is still specified every day on PBX cross-connects, alarm panels and nurse-call systems that have been in service for twenty years. We build it to the pairing and length on your drawing.

What the RJ14C code actually means
The RJ prefix comes from the registered jack series, and the suffix letter is the wiring arrangement rather than the plug shape. All of these use the same 6-position modular body; only the number of conductors actually terminated changes.
| Code | Positions / conductors | Lines | Common use |
|---|---|---|---|
| RJ11C | 6P2C | 1 line | Single handset lead, modem lead |
| RJ14C | 6P4C | 2 lines | Two-line desk sets, PBX jumper, this build |
| RJ25C | 6P6C | 3 lines | Three-line sets, older key systems |
| RJ45S | 8P8C | Data | Ethernet; a different family entirely |
The registered jack designations are industry-general: they describe the wiring, not a performance grade. What your cord is wired to is what appears on the order, and we verify it pin by pin.
Pin assignment
On the standard two-line arrangement the first line sits on the center pair and the second line wraps outside it, which is why a one-line plug still works in a two-line jack.
| Pin | Line 1 | Line 2 | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | – | Tip 2 | Outer, may be unpopulated |
| 2 | – | Ring 2 | Second pair |
| 3 | Tip 1 | – | Center pair, first line |
| 4 | Ring 1 | – | Center pair, first line |
| 5 | – | Tip 2 spare | Depends on the scheme |
| 6 | – | – | Usually not populated |
There are several conventions in the field and they are not all the same. If your equipment follows a variant, send the pinout — we wire to your drawing, not to a chart.
Where 6-pin modular cords are still specified
- PBX and key-system cross-connect frames
- Two-line desk phones and fax machines still in service
- Alarm and security panels with a legacy line interface
- Nurse-call and assisted-living signaling loops
- Elevator and building intercoms
- Bench and service leads for telecom test sets
Why these cords are usually short
A cross-connect jumper only has to cross a frame, so four inches is a normal length and five meters is unusual. Short is also mechanically kinder: a 6-position plug has no latch guard worth speaking of, and a long cord hanging off a frame puts all its weight on the contacts. If you need length, ask for a strain relief boot and a jacket rated for where it will actually sit.
Typical applications for this rj14c 6 pin modular patch cord
- Telephone cross-connect and distribution frames
- Two-line handset leads for reception and dispatch desks
- Service leads for line test sets on a bench
- Alarm dialer and panel line cords — for building cable see our Nurse Call Button Cable with 6P4C Plug
- Legacy POS and terminal leads, alongside the Coiled Telephone Handset Cable
How to specify your build
- Number of conductors — 2 or 4, and whether positions 1 and 6 are populated.
- Pinout — send it if it differs from the standard two-line arrangement.
- Length, including the frame or wall path.
- Cable — stranded twisted pair for jumpers; the spec reference is on your drawing.
- Jacket and color — gray or ivory is typical; other colors on request.
- Quantity and packaging: one per bag, or bulk.
Workmanship and testing
Assembly and inspection follow IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship criteria under our ISO 9001 quality management system, and every unit is 100% continuity and pinout tested before it is packed. Conductor range is 32 to 12 AWG. Pinout and continuity are verified on every unit against the scheme on the order. Where a standard sets a limit for the category, the connector interface or the jacket, that is the industry-general definition of the rating. The values your assembly is built and verified to are the ones stated on your drawing, per order.
Material declarations against RoHS and REACH are issued per project, alongside the dimensional and electrical reports agreed at quotation; see certifications, compliance and material declarations. Where your drawing names a UL style or another approval, the build follows your drawing and ships with the supporting document rather than a claim of our own. Production runs on the same lines described under the assembly lines behind this build, where cutting, termination, molding and 100 percent electrical verification sit under one roof. Custom builds and ordering
Short jumper runs are a fast build — a photo of the existing cord is usually enough to start. Prototype builds start from 1 to 50 pcs and ship in 3 working days; production orders start at MOQ 500 pcs and ship 14 working days after approval. New tooling adds about 10 working days, and we hold 100 sets of mold tooling in house. OEM and ODM builds ship under your part number and labeling, with material certificates and first-article reports on request. Factory audits and video line tours of our Longgang, Shenzhen plant can be arranged through Alan Kang.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is RJ14 the same as RJ11?
No. Both use a 6-position plug, but RJ11 terminates two conductors and RJ14 terminates four — one line versus two.
Can I plug an RJ14 cord into an RJ11 jack?
Usually yes mechanically. The second line simply has nowhere to land, so you get the center pair only.
Can this carry Ethernet?
No. Ethernet needs four pairs on an 8-position plug. This is a voice and signaling cord.
Do you make coiled versions?
Yes. Coiled handset cord is a separate build and is the usual choice for desk sets.
