Feeding a Compact Terminal Straight From the Vehicle

A 12V or 24V socket is the most convenient power source in a car, truck, RV or boat, and using it removes the inverter from the chain. This cigarette lighter DC power cable takes the socket output to a moulded 5.5×2.1mm barrel plug with a sealing gasket at the mating face, so the joint stays dry on an open deck or in a dusty cab. No AC adapter, no inverter and no mains wiring in the vehicle.

The barrel plug is centre positive, which matches the majority of compact satellite terminals and small network devices. Polarity is printed on the overmould, so an installer can check it before plugging in rather than after.

Which Terminals This Lead Suits

Fitment is the first thing to settle before ordering, because barrel diameter is not the only difference between hardware generations.

Fuse and Wire Gauge

The lighter plug carries a replaceable blade fuse inside its barrel. It protects the vehicle harness rather than the load, and it is the first thing to check when a terminal stops powering up. Blade fuses are stocked by any automotive parts shop, so a field swap takes seconds.

• 18 AWG tinned copper on the 3 m and 5 m versions
• 16 AWG on the 10 m version, to keep voltage drop in check over the longer run

Lengths and Build Options

Three stock lengths cover most installs: 3 m for a dashboard or front-seat mount, 5 m for a roof or rack mount in a van, and 10 m for a cabin-to-cockpit run on a boat. The jacket is specified across a wide temperature span, so the cable stays workable in a cold cab and does not go soft on a sun-loaded dashboard. An optional LED in the plug body gives a quick visual confirmation that the socket is live.
