Power 12 V Gear From Any USB-C Charger

A PD trigger cable asks a USB-C charger or power bank for a fixed voltage and presents it on a DC barrel plug. That turns the USB-C wall charger or 100 W power bank you already own into a supply for routers, modems, mini PCs, LED controllers, displays, single-board computers and 12 V devices – without the brick that shipped with the device, and without a second cable type in the bag.

Voltage Display and PD-Only Behaviour

The inline head shows the voltage the trigger has asked for from the USB-C charger, so you can confirm the negotiated level at a glance. Six fixed steps are available – 5 V, 9 V, 12 V, 15 V, 20 V and 28 V – selected by a small switch on the trigger head. Pick the voltage your load requires before plugging in. This trigger is PD 2.0 / PD 3.0 only; it does not support Quick Charge or other proprietary handshakes, and with a non-PD charger it will not output the requested voltage.

Specifications

USB-C plug on the source side, DC 5.5 x 2.1 mm barrel on the load side, 18 AWG, 1 m or 2 m. Up to 100 W depending on what the charger and the load both agree to – the cable does not create power the charger cannot deliver. Right-angle barrel option for tight cable runs. Also available with 5.5 x 2.5 mm and 4.0 x 1.7 mm barrels where the load takes a different size.

Typical Installations

Replacing a failed OEM adapter for a router or ONT; running a mini PC or single-board computer from a power bank during field work; powering 12 V LED controllers and small displays from a USB-C PD supply; emergency comms kits where one charger has to serve everything.

Build Options and Ordering

Voltage option, cable length, jacket colour, barrel size, straight or right-angle plug, and the trigger chip profile are selectable. Because the trigger behaviour is firmware or resistor-set, the voltage must be locked at the point of order – a fixed 12 V build cannot be changed later in the field.
