M12 K-Coded Power Cable for 630 V AC Motor Feeds
Last updated: 7 September 2026
This m12 k-coded power cable carries three-phase AC to small motors, distributed drives and inverter-fed loads over a connector footprint that is a fraction of a 7/8 inch or RC panel receptacle. The range covers overmoulded cordsets in straight and right-angle versions, male and female, together with panel feedthrough bodies for passing a mains feed through an enclosure wall and field-attachable versions for electricians terminating exact lengths on site.
Why K-coding exists
M12 connectors look alike from the outside, and that is the hazard. A sensor lead, a fieldbus drop and a mains motor feed can all sit on the same M12 thread, so the mechanical keyway inside the shell is what prevents a mistake. K-coding places the contacts and the key slot so a K-coded plug will not enter an A-coded receptacle, which means a 24 V proximity switch lead cannot be pushed into a three-phase motor outlet by an installer working in a poorly lit cabinet. The M12 power codings are defined in IEC 61076-2-111; check which edition applies before you write a specification around it, and verify the mating face against the receptacles already fitted to your machines.
Where it gets installed
- Small three-phase AC motors and gear motors on conveyors and packaging lines
- Distributed drive nodes mounted on the machine rather than in the cabinet
- Variable frequency drive output runs where the motor sits a few meters away
- LED high bay luminaires and rooftop HVAC units fed from a local junction box
- Retrofit panels where an existing mains connector is being replaced with M12
Build options
Cordsets are offered as straight and right-angle overmoulded versions in both male and female, with PUR or PVC jackets depending on whether the run sees oil, coolant, weld spatter or continuous flexing. Panel feedthrough receptacles let a mains feed pass through an enclosure wall without a terminal block, which removes a wiring step and a potential loose connection. Field-attachable screw and crimp versions allow installers to cut and terminate on the machine instead of ordering a fixed catalog length. The contact arrangement is 4 + PE over five positions. Mating faces follow the M12 power codings in IEC 61076-2-111, so these assemblies are intended for use with HARTING style and Phoenix Contact style M12 receptacles of the same coding.
Specification points to confirm before quoting
Voltage, current, impulse withstand and temperature range for this range come from the published data of comparable M12 power products, not from our own verified datasheet. Ratings for a mains-voltage connector are not interchangeable between suppliers: creepage distance, contact plating, stranding and jacket compound all affect the final figure. Send us the load current, ambient temperature, and whether the run flexes in service, and we will return the supplier datasheet that applies to the exact construction you are buying. Where a number cannot yet be evidenced, we will say so rather than quote a value we cannot support.
