Description

Overview

This 7/8 power cable carries the thick 7/8-16 UN thread and 3-pin contact layout that bus power architectures rely on, delivering 13 A at 300 V through a sealed, overmolded assembly built for machine frames and mobile equipment.

The 7/8-inch platform is the power backbone of DeviceNet, CANopen and NMEA 2000 systems: its coarse 7/8-16 UN thread gives a vibration-proof mechanical joint, and the 3-pin layout carries the full 13 A / 300 V class that trunk lines and node feeds demand. Where M12 connectors top out in current, this larger shell keeps contact resistance low on long power runs.

Key Specifications

The table below lists the configuration shown in the product photo.

Construction and Materials

The connector is overmolded directly onto a round industrial jacket, with the potting sealing both the contact cavity and the cable entry against washdown water, dust and oil mist. The coupling nut is knurled metal for a firm grip with gloved hands, and the keyed shell prevents mis-mating with signal connectors on the same machine.

The 13 A class sets the conductor gauge, not the connector shell, and the jacket is sized to fill the cable entry so the potting has a continuous surface to seal against. The keyway is molded into the insert, which keeps a power plug out of a signal port.

Typical Applications

Typical runs include DeviceNet thick trunk drops, CANopen power feeds on mobile machinery, NMEA 2000 battery and backbone connections on boats, and general machine power drops where a sealed screw-coupled connector is preferred over a bare gland.

It is also used on mobile machinery CANopen feeds, marine battery and backbone connections, and general machine power drops where a sealed screw joint replaces a cable gland.

Compatibility and Fitment

The 7/8-16 UN thread and 3-pin layout follow the connector conventions used by DeviceNet and CANopen power hardware, so the cordset mates with standard 7/8-inch power ports from major industrial brands. Confirm the gender and pin assignment on your device before ordering.

Custom Builds and Ordering

Lengths, jacket material and gender combinations are built to order. Share your network drawing and we will quote matching power and terminator cordsets for the whole trunk. Prototype and sample lots run from 1 to 50 pcs and ship in 3 working days; production orders start at 500 pcs per part number and ship 14 working days after approval, with new overmold tooling adding about 10 working days.

Packaging and Shipping

Each cordset is bagged with protective caps over the contacts and packed in a carton. OEM labels and bulk packs are available.

Quality and Compliance

Every assembly passes a continuity and seal check before shipment, and the overmold is inspected for complete encapsulation. Test sheets can be attached to your order on request. See the ODVA / DeviceNet specifications for the governing interface specification.

Material declarations against RoHS and REACH are issued per project, alongside the dimensional and electrical reports agreed at quotation; see certifications, compliance and material declarations. Where your drawing names a UL style or another approval, the build follows your drawing and ships with the supporting document rather than a claim of our own. Sealing follows the insert, gasket and overmold-bond method described under IP67 and IP68 sealing structures, so the rating comes from the joint design rather than from the connector datasheet alone. What to Put on the Drawing for a 7/8 Power Cable

A 7/8 power cable is released against a drawing, not a catalog description. Put the connector family and keying on each end, the pinout or polarity map, the finished length measured between the mating reference planes, the cable construction you want, and the acceptance tests you expect. If the 7/8-inch 3-pin power connector has to clear a panel cutout or a bracket, give that envelope too. Anything left open is agreed in writing before tooling or a production slot is committed.

Where a value is not fixed by your drawing we do not invent one. Contact rating, jacket material, sealing class and test limits are recorded as confirm per build, and the released drawing is what the first article is checked against. Send a marked-up sample if a drawing is not available; we confirm the pinout back to you in writing before any 7/8 Power Cable is built.

How to Request a Quote for a 7/8 Power Cable

Send a drawing or BOM, a physical sample, or a written requirement. We log the interface, the application conditions, the environment and the target quantity together, then return an acknowledgement with a list of anything still missing. Pricing is confirm per RFQ and is quoted against the released specification, not against a generic 7/8 power cable description.

If the design is not final, say so: we quote the prototype route and hold the production tooling decision until the first article is approved. Drawings are handled under a mutual NDA before they are received. The same document then carries the build from sample through repeat orders, which keeps the 7/8-inch 3-pin power connector consistent across batches.

Strain Relief at the 7/8-Inch 3-Pin Exit

The transition from a rigid connector to a flexible cable is where most field failures start. On this build the overmold bonds to the jacket so a pull lands on the molded body instead of on the crimp. Keep the first bend outside that transition, avoid tying the lead tightly against the shell, and do not use the cable as a handle when unplugging. Exposure to oil, coolant splash and vibration makes a stiff exit worse, because the jacket does not relieve the lever on its own.

Where the design needs a different exit angle, a longer boot or an additional clamp, that is a tooling question and is settled before production. We mold the exit rather than bending a finished plug, and the geometry is kept under your part reference so a repeat order matches the 7/8 power cable you approved.

Electrical Verification Before Shipment

Every 7/8 power cable is checked for continuity and pinout against the released drawing before packing, and the mating faces are inspected for full engagement. A swapped core is cheaper to find at the bench than in the field. Where the drawing calls for insulation resistance, dielectric withstand or retention testing, those limits come from your specification and are reported against it; we do not substitute our own numbers.

First article inspection is issued to your format when the order calls for it, with dimensional results and photographs of the critical features. Sealed sections are screened on the agreed test setup. Test scope is fixed in writing before production release so the report that arrives with the shipment describes the build you actually approved.

Service, Spares and Repeat Orders

Decide early whether the 7/8 power cable is a serviceable joint or a sealed, molded run. A molded assembly is faster to replace on site; a field-terminatable one is kinder to an uncertain route. Spare part numbers, the quantity held and the labeling convention are settled at quotation so the shelf matches the machine rather than the catalog.

Tooling built against your paid development is stored and maintained in our tool room, and we do not sell your geometry to other customers. A repeat order is released from the retained drawing and the retained revision, so the 7/8-inch 3-pin power connector you fitted earlier is the one you receive again. Any change is confirmed in writing before it enters the build.
