The Most Common Reason a Power Cable Gets Returned

It is not a fault – it is a mismatch. The barrel looked right and the plug was 0.4 mm too small, or the inner pin was 2.5 mm instead of 2.1 mm. Routers, single-board computers, cameras and LED drivers do not agree on one barrel size, and a supply shipped with a 5.5 x 2.1 mm plug will not fit a device that expects 5.5 x 2.5 mm. This kit covers the sizes that cause almost all of those returns, in one bag.

What Is in the Kit

Six moulded female-to-male adapters covering 5.5 x 2.1 mm, 5.5 x 2.5 mm, 4.0 x 1.7 mm, 3.5 x 1.35 mm and 2.5 mm, plus the combination used to step between the two most common 5.5 mm variants. Each adapter is a moulded body with nickel-plated brass contacts, not a machined shell with a loose insert, so the contact does not rotate under the spring pressure of the socket.

Polarity

Every adapter in the kit is centre positive, and the kit is labelled as such. These adapters change barrel size – they do not reverse polarity. If your device is centre negative, these are the wrong part. Check the symbol on the device label before ordering.

Specifications

Each adapter is rated 24 V DC / 5 A. Contacts are nickel-plated brass. Bodies are moulded, with a matte finish that takes a written label if you want to mark adapters per device. The kit ships bagged with a printed size card, or boxed with a printed insert for retail.

Typical Installations

Installers carrying one supply type across a mixed estate of routers, ONTs, cameras and LED drivers; service vans stocking the sizes that fail most often; OEMs bundling an adapter set with a device that has an unusual barrel. Also useful on the bench – it keeps the drawer of loose adapters from growing.

Build Options and Ordering

The six-piece set is the standard configuration; we also mould the individual sizes on their own, and we can substitute sizes if your devices use something else. Packaging, labelling and body colour are configurable. If you need a different current rating, say so – the contact and the moulding change together, so it is a tooling question rather than a binning question.
