Construction and Materials

Deutsch DT shells use a bayonet coupling that locks with a quarter turn, so vibration will not walk the plug out the way a friction-fit connector can. The insert shown here is colour-coded, which is how the series distinguishes keying and pin count at a glance. Sealed variants carry silicone grommets at the rear of the shell where the individual wires exit.

Typical Applications

Found on truck engine harnesses, agricultural machinery and construction plant, where the diagnostic port lives outside the cab and is exposed to wash-down and road spray. Workshops use the lead to bring the machine port out to a handheld scanner or a laptop running the OEM service tool.

Compatibility and Fitment

Match the insert colour and keying to the mating receptacle on the machine: DT shells of the same pin count will not couple if the keying differs. Confirm whether the equipment uses the DT series or the larger DTM / DTP housings before ordering.
