Overview

An M20 stage lighting cable is built around the rhythm of rigging life: strike Friday, load-out in the rain, road case overnight, re-strike Monday. The male-to-female extension chains power and data across LED cabinets with one 3+5 hybrid connector, mated to IP67 and rated for thousands of cycles.

Designed Around the Load-In, Not the Lab

Touring hardware fails in ways a datasheet never predicts: a boot crushed under a case wheel, a coupling nut cross-threaded by a gloved hand at head height, a coiled cable that went into the truck wet. This build starts from those realities. The coupling nut is knurled for grip, the overmold strain relief is molded in one piece so a snag pulls against rubber instead of solder, and the length flag is printed near the connector so a crew can pick the right run before uncoiling it.

One Connector, Power and Data, Cabinet to Cabinet

The 3+5 insert is what makes LED-wall interconnect tidy: three positions carry the feed, five carry the control or data pair, and one coupling secures both, so a column of cabinets chains connector to connector without adapters. In the 8-pin signal class the contacts carry 60 V at 2 A – the standard budget for 24 V cabinet rails plus a data line – while low pin-count members of the same M20 family reach 300 V / 15 A where the rig needs it.

The Jacket Is the First Thing to Die

Which is why the default is PUR: it shrugs off deck abrasion, venue-storage solvents and cold-morning truck loads, and it stays flexible enough to dress a truss at 6 a.m. Contacts are gold-plated brass in a glass-filled nylon shell; metal shells are available for fixtures that stack on the connector. Family mating life runs to 3,000 cycles, comfortably above what even a heavy rental season demands.

Case Life Between Shows

Storage kills more touring cable than shows do: a jacket pinned under a case lip for a season takes a set that becomes the failure point. Packaging and Verification

Cables ship coiled, wrapped and boxed by length so the right run comes out of the case first. Every unit is continuity and hipot tested and gauge-mated; sealed builds are leak checked and the overmold is pull-tested, because this hardware is handled hard by definition.
