Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable for 8K Video Walls
An ultra high speed hdmi cable for fixed commercial installs where the source sits close to the panel: signage players behind screens, lecterns, table boxes and racked video wall controllers. 30 AWG, foil and braid shielded, halogen-free TPE.
Overview
An ultra high speed hdmi cable is the grade specified where a source has to drive 8K or high refresh 4K over a short run, and it is the grade most often mis-specified because the number buyers quote — 48 Gbps — describes the link, not the length of cable that will carry it. This range is built for fixed commercial installs where the source sits close to the panel: signage players mounted behind retail screens, lectern connections in classrooms, table boxes in meeting rooms and controllers racked directly below a video wall.

What the published grades actually mean
The HDMI Forum publishes cable grades by the bandwidth the assembly has to carry, not by resolution. These are the industry-published categories; the values your assembly is built and verified to are the ones stated on your drawing.
| Cable grade | Published bandwidth | What it is typically specified for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard HDMI | Category 1, up to 4.95 Gbps | 1080i and 720p distribution |
| High Speed HDMI | Category 2, up to 10.2 Gbps | 1080p, 4K at 30 Hz, 3D |
| Premium High Speed | Up to 18 Gbps | 4K at 60 Hz with HDR |
| Ultra High Speed | Up to 48 Gbps | 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 120 Hz or 240 Hz |
The length wall, and why it moves
At 48 Gbps the signaling uses four fixed rate link lanes, and every meter of passive copper costs you margin at the receiver. That is the whole story behind the length wall: a passive assembly does not stop working at some magic distance, it starts producing dropouts, sparkles and handshake retries that cost far more to diagnose than the cable. Three things decide where your wall sits.
| Factor | What it does | What to do about it |
|---|---|---|
| Conductor size | Thinner conductors lose more per meter | 30 AWG keeps the assembly flexible; accept a shorter run |
| Connector and board quality | A poor mating interface costs as much as a meter of cable | Buy the assembly as a tested unit, not a cable plus plugs |
| Source and sink tolerance | Some devices have more margin than others | Test the exact source and display pair before a volume order |
We quote passive assemblies for short runs, and hybrid or active constructions where a passive lead no longer behaves reliably at the distance required. Telling us the real length up front is the cheapest insurance on the job.
Where it gets installed
- Digital signage players and media boxes mounted behind retail or transit displays
- Education and meeting rooms where the source sits within a few meters of the panel
- Video wall controllers racked below or beside the display array
- Showroom and demonstration setups that are re-patched between events
Construction and handling
The conductors are 30 AWG with foil plus braid shielding, a combination chosen to keep the assembly flexible enough to route through a shallow back box or along a display arm without kinking. The jacket is halogen-free TPE rather than standard PVC, so it stays supple in cold storage and does not stiffen after a long period coiled in a carton. Contacts are gold plated to limit oxidation on ports that stay mated for months at a time. Each overmolded shell carries the specification laser marked into the plastic, so an installer can still identify the grade of a cable after it has disappeared behind a screen.
Lengths, packing and OEM
- Stock lengths of 0.5 m, 1 m, 2 m and 3 m
- Retail polybag, hang tag or bulk carton packing
- Custom lengths, jacket color and logo print for volume orders
- Assemblies matched, tested and labeled per project or per room
Typical applications for this ultra high speed hdmi
- Retail and transit signage where the player sits behind the screen
- Video wall processors feeding a close-coupled array, alongside our 8K HDMI screw lock cable assembly where the run must not work loose
- Classroom and meeting room lecterns and table boxes
- Showroom and demonstration rigs, paired with our active optical HDMI cable for boardrooms and ceiling projectors where the run is longer
- Control desks feeding a local monitor from a racked controller
Specification points to confirm before quoting
Bandwidth, resolution support and shielding construction for this range come from the published data of comparable commercial products. They are not yet confirmed against our own datasheet. Before locking a cable into a bill of materials, ask us for the supplier datasheet and any lab report covering signal integrity at the exact length you plan to buy.
Workmanship and testing
IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 is the workmanship bar for Ultra High Speed HDMI builds, and ISO 9001 is the system behind the line, from 32 to 12 AWG. Each Ultra unit passes a continuity and pinout check before it ships, and seal checking is quoted whenever an ingress rating is on the drawing.
RoHS and REACH declarations are provided per project together with the agreed test reports; the documentation scope is listed under certifications and compliance. If your drawing specifies a UL style, we build to that drawing and supply the UL reference with the shipment instead of substituting an equivalent. The molded body is shot on our own presses; material choice and bond behavior follow the process described under overmolding and injection molding. Custom builds and ordering
Five pieces is the prototype minimum for Ultra High Speed HDMI builds, shipping in 3 working days. The production minimum is 500 pcs, delivered 14 working days after approval. Tooling not already held adds around 10 working days. Ultra orders ship under your part number and labeling material certificates and first-article reports can be supplied.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run 8K at 5 m on this cable?
Not passively. At 48 Gbps the limiting factor is length, not the grade stamped on the shell. Tell us the distance and we will quote a hybrid or active build instead of a passive lead that drops out.
Is the 48 Gbps figure measured by you?
Not yet. It is the published figure for this cable grade; we supply the supplier datasheet and any lab report before you commit to a project quantity.
Why is the jacket TPE rather than PVC?
Halogen-free TPE stays supple in cold storage and does not stiffen after being coiled in a carton, which matters on installs where the cable is dressed and left for years.
Do you label per room or per project?
Yes. On volume orders we can match, test and label assemblies per project or per room so a maintenance call does not turn into a re-test.
