Build-to-Print Cable Assemblies

You have the drawing. What you need is a supplier who reads it properly — and tells you what is wrong with it before the tooling is cut, not after.

HKWIRE is a custom cable assembly manufacturer and OEM/ODM supplier in Longgang, Shenzhen. Build-to-print is our default way of working: your drawing defines the part, and we quote exactly that construction rather than the closest catalog item we happen to stock.

What we need to quote

Twelve items. Send all of them and the quote is fast; send four and we can still start.

  1. Drawing or reference part number — STEP, STP, DWG or PDF
  2. Connector or mating part at both ends, including manufacturer and part number if known
  3. Pinout / wiring diagram
  4. Conductor count and gauge, or current and signal requirements
  5. Cable jacket material and any compliance requirement — RoHS, REACH, halogen-free, UL style
  6. Shielding requirement — braid, foil, combination, drain wire
  7. Overall length, branch lengths and tolerances
  8. Operating environment — temperature, motion, chemicals, UV, ingress
  9. Overmold or strain-relief requirement, including material preference
  10. Test and inspection requirements, and report format if needed
  11. Prototype quantity and estimated annual volume
  12. Packaging, labeling and delivery requirements

Do not have all twelve? Send what you have. Items 1, 2, 3 and 11 are usually enough to start, and we will ask for the rest in a single round instead of six emails.

What we return with the quote

  • A construction definition — what we are actually quoting, in writing
  • Any DFM questions or risk flags, with the reason each one matters
  • Itemised tooling cost if molding is required — tooling is quoted separately from piece price, and the tool is yours
  • Test scope and report availability, stated before you commit
  • Prototype and production lead times — 3 working days for prototypes, 14 working days for production, plus 10 working days when new tooling is needed
  • MOQ and volume pricing breaks — 1 to 50 pcs at prototype stage, 500 pcs for production

Where build-to-print goes wrong elsewhere

The failure mode is not a bad factory. It is a quote that answers only the questions you asked. A drawing can be complete and still be unbuildable at your volume: a shielding termination that cannot be done by hand twice the same way, a tolerance that costs money for no function, an overmold geometry that traps air. If nobody raises those before the tool exists, they surface at first article, when everyone is invested in the design being fine.

What build-to-print means on our floor

We are a manufacturer, not a sourcing desk. Mold making, overmolding, assembly and electrical testing sit in one facility, so the people who answer your engineering questions are the people who will run the job.

We build and inspect to IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship criteria under an ISO 9001 certified quality management system, and every unit passes 100% continuity and pinout testing before it is packed. Production orders start at 500 pcs and ship 14 working days after approval; prototype builds run from 1 to 50 pcs and leave in 3 working days. Factory audits are welcome, in person or by live video walk-through, arranged in advance.

Can you quote without a complete drawing?

Yes. A reference part number, a sketch or a photograph is usually enough for a budget quote. We ask the remaining questions in one round rather than one email at a time.

What is your MOQ and lead time?

Prototype and sample builds run from 1 to 50 pcs and ship in 3 working days. Production orders start at 500 pcs and ship 14 working days after approval; allow about 10 working days more if a new mold has to be cut.

Will you change my design?

Only with your approval. A DFM review comes back as a list of questions and risk flags with the reason each one matters. Nothing is changed silently.

Do you sign an NDA before we send drawings?

Yes. Send yours and we will sign it, or we can provide ours. Drawings are only shared with the engineers and production staff working on your part.

Who owns the tooling?

You do. Tooling is quoted separately from piece price, and the molds are yours — held, maintained and run for your program, and released to you on request.

Do you handle OEM and ODM programs?

Yes. Build-to-print covers OEM supply; where the construction also has to be designed, we work as an ODM manufacturer and supplier from the interface and environment inward.

Can you quote from a BOM as well as a drawing?

Yes. A BOM, a reference part number or a drawing all work as a starting point; the construction is confirmed in writing before piece price is quoted.
