Cat5e UTP Short-Body Patch Cord for VoIP (350 MHz, 24 AWG, Slim RJ45 Boot)
A cat5e utp short body voip patch cord with a slim RJ45 boot for the places a standard boot will not seat: 48-port panels, VoIP desk phones and shallow wall boxes.
Overview
A cat5e utp short body voip patch cord is a clearance problem solved at the plug. A standard molded boot adds length behind the RJ45 body, and on a 48-port panel crammed into 1U — or behind a desk phone sitting over a shallow wall box — that extra length is exactly why a port cannot be dressed or a cover will not shut. Shortening the boot is the cheapest fix available, and it costs nothing electrically.

Why boot length decides the install
Three dimensions decide whether a cord fits: the depth of the cavity behind the port, the horizontal pitch between adjacent ports, and how much finger room you need to release the latch. On a 48-port 1U panel the pitch is tight enough that a fat boot on one port blocks the two beside it.
| Boot style | Length behind the plug | Best for | Where it jams |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard molded | Longest | Open desk drops, low-density panels | 1U 48-port panels, shallow boxes |
| Slim short-body | Shortest | Dense panels, VoIP handsets, wall plates | Where fingers need grip to unplug |
| Snagless | Medium | Frequent moves, latch protection | Very tight adjacent-port spacing |
| No boot | Minimal | Fixed installs nobody unplugs | Anywhere the latch is exposed to snagging |
Where a short-body boot is required
- 48-port 1U patch panels and high-density top-of-rack switches
- VoIP desk phones with recessed or shrouded ports
- Shallow wall boxes and flush-mount wall plates
- Under-desk and floor-box outlets with a closing lid
- Dense AV racks where every cord has to dress into a horizontal manager
- Any install where the cord exits straight back with no room to turn
Conductor, wiring and PoE
Stranded 24 AWG bare copper is the right conductor for a patch that gets handled, and it is the right starting point for Voice over IP handsets that take their power over the same pairs. Two things matter for PoE at density: conductor material, because copper-clad aluminum runs hotter for the same current, and how many cords sit in the same bundle, because heat adds up. Both are build decisions, and the current and temperature figures for your assembly are stated per order rather than quoted from a generic sheet.
Typical applications for this cat5e utp short body voip patch cord
- VoIP desk phone to wall outlet, where the phone sits flat against the wall
- High-density patch panel to switch, alongside our Cat5e UTP Patch Cord for the open runs
- Wi-Fi access point and camera drops in shallow ceiling boxes
- Trading-floor and call-center desks with a port per seat
- Wall plates with a hinged cover, where a standard boot holds the lid open
How to specify your build
- Boot style — short-body slim, snagless, or no boot.
- Length — short bodies are usually 0.3 to 2 m.
- Wiring — T568B default, T568A on request.
- Jacket and color — PVC; LSZH for public buildings.
- PoE or not, and the device current draw.
- Quantity, prototype or production.
Workmanship and testing
Assembly and inspection follow IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship criteria under our ISO 9001 quality management system, and every unit is 100% continuity and pinout tested before it is packed. Conductor range is 32 to 12 AWG. Boot pull-off and latch deflection are checked on the first article. Where a standard sets a limit for the category, the connector interface or the jacket, that is the industry-general definition of the rating. The values your assembly is built and verified to are the ones stated on your drawing, per order.
Material declarations against RoHS and REACH are issued per project, alongside the dimensional and electrical reports agreed at quotation; see certifications, compliance and material declarations. Where your drawing names a UL style or another approval, the build follows your drawing and ships with the supporting document rather than a claim of our own. This assembly is built on the four lines covered under cable assembly and wire harness production, with nothing in the build handed to an undisclosed subcontractor. Tooling for this build is cut in our own tool room and belongs to your program, so a repeat run years later starts from the same tool.
Custom builds and ordering
Quote Cat5e UTP Short-Body builds from 1 to 50 pcs and they ship in 3 working days. At volume the minimum is 500 pcs with 14 working days after approval. OEM and ODM Cat5e runs go out under your part number and labeling and we provide material certificates and first-article reports when asked. New tooling adds about 10 working days, and we hold 100 sets of mold tooling in house.

Frequently Asked Questions
What clearance does a short-body boot actually save?
Enough to matter on a 1U 48-port panel — the difference between dressing the port and blocking its neighbors. Give us the panel part number and we will confirm the fit.
Is a shorter boot weaker?
It gives up some strain relief. For a cord that sits plugged in and never moves, that is a good trade. For a cord that gets pulled daily, a snagless boot is the better call.
Can I get these in different colors per department?
Yes. Colored jackets and colored boots are both common requests and are quoted with the order.
Will it work with a PoE phone?
Yes. Tell us the handset model or the current draw and we will build to a conductor and gauge that carries it, with the rating stated per your drawing.
